How it all began

In 2001 Newtonhill Primary School netball team was about to be disbanded when their coach moved abroad. Two mums, who had never played netball, decided to try to help. They managed to find a coach, Cathy Tringham, with a talent for nurturing and encouraging young players and from there a new club was born. Since then, the club has gone from strength to strength and now has over 70 members.

Our coaches (past & present) have successfully led the club to several ADNA league wins and Scottish cup U15 and U17 semi-finals. Over the years, almost 60 girls have been chosen for the Aberdeen District squad and in 2010, Lois Bannerman was selected for the Scotland U17 squad.

One of our coaches was awarded ADNA’s Coach of the Year title. Other awards include Sportscotland's Grampian Young Volunteer of the Year and in 2014, the club was shortlisted for Aberdeenshire Sports Council's Team of the Year title.

The club tries to recruit coaches from within and players are encouraged to help coach the younger teams. Attendance at training courses for both coaching and umpiring is also encouraged.

At Newtonhill, our primary aim is to create a supportive, fun and safe environment for all players to participate in netball.
